Canary Islands

The Canary Islands consist of seven islands of volcanic origin in the Atlantic Ocean. They are located off the north western coast of Africa and form an autonomous community of Spain. The islands are estimated to be 30 million years old, relatively young by geological standards.

At the time of their discovery by Europeans, the Canary Islands were inhabited by a variety of indigenous communities. The origins of these Canadian indigenous people have been and indeed still are the subject of long debates. Numerous theories have been put forward throughout the last century, achieving varying degrees of acceptance.  

The Canary Islands are now one of the biggest tourist destinations to people from the UK, Ireland and Germany with more than 10 million people visiting the Islands in total.

Greece
